The RZ250 was released in 1980, but at the time, it was after the oil crisis, and exhaust gas regulations focusing on environmental protection were starting in Europe and the US. Thus, Yamaha introduced it as their last 2-stroke model.
Bringing together technology gained from the racing world, it gained immense popularity as a bike with a lightweight body and excellent, sharp, and responsive handling.
