Oil Stop Sand Spacer KIT for 1980-81 TM
This spacer kit was developed from a metaform gasket that was designed to prevent oil leaks from the main shaft of Shovelhead transmissions. It prevents oil leaks in 1980-81 rotary top TMs.
To maximize the performance of the metaform gasket, we researched the genuine spacer to secure the contact surface of the metaform gasket. We designed and created a spacer, heat-treated it with carbon steel, and applied hard chrome to the entire spacer for improved durability and rust prevention on the sliding parts (the surface where the seal contacts and the main shaft side), with strict dimensional control for both inner and outer dimensions.
Also, to increase strength compared to the genuine part, the wall thickness is larger than the genuine part.
Furthermore, since the spacer body has a one-piece structure, it is the same as the genuine part and has the advantage of being easy to assemble even when the transmission is installed on the vehicle.
It can be used with genuine, Andrews, and aftermarket main drive gears.
Metaform gaskets were adopted as genuine parts in Twin Cam models and later.
Metaform is a metal-based gasket that fills microscopic irregularities in metal surfaces to stop oil leaks much more efficiently than previous paper gaskets.
By developing a dedicated spacer, using metaform gaskets between the main drive gear spacer and the sprocket, between the sprocket and the lock tab, and between the lock tab and the special nut, we prevent oil leaks from metal-to-metal contact points where oil leaks could occur.
If the nut with the seal is used as is, the main drive gear and the seal will come into contact due to the thread length of the nut, shortening the seal's lifespan. As a countermeasure, we designed it to allow the nut with the seal to be tightened in the proper position by providing a dedicated spacer to compensate for the length, thereby extending its lifespan.
Also, the spacer is designed with a one-piece structure, which is because oil is designed to reach the lip part of the KOYO seal on the special nut.
By allowing oil to reach the seal lip, the oil seal can be properly lubricated, resulting in a design aimed at a longer lifespan.
