■Product Description
Oil Stop Sand Spacer KIT for 1982-84 TM
This spacer kit was developed from the Metafoam gasket, which was created to address oil leaks from the main shaft of Shovelhead transmissions. It prevents oil leaks in 1982-84 rotary top TMs.
To maximize the performance of the Metafoam gasket, we studied the genuine spacer and ensured the contact surface for the Metafoam gasket. We designed and created the spacer, and then hardened and heat-treated it with carbon steel. The sliding parts (the surface where the seal contacts and the main shaft side) are meticulously dimensioned internally and externally to improve durability and prevent rust. The entire spacer is hard-chromed.
Furthermore, to increase strength compared to the genuine part, the wall thickness is also larger than the genuine part.
Additionally, since the spacer body has a one-piece construction, it has the advantage of being easy to assemble even when the transmission is installed on the vehicle, just like the genuine part.
It can be used with genuine, Andrews, and aftermarket main drive gears.
Metafoam gaskets have been adopted as genuine parts since the Twin Cam era.
Metafoam is a metal-based gasket that fills microscopic irregularities on metal surfaces and stops oil leaks much more efficiently than previous paper gaskets.
We have been developing this product with the goal of enabling Metafoam gaskets for TMs to be used in rotary TMs with maximum sealing performance.
Metafoam gaskets do not require liquid gasket, so please do not use liquid gasket.
By developing a dedicated spacer, Metafoam gaskets are used between the main drive gear spacer and the sprocket, between the sprocket and the lock tab, and between the lock tab and the special nut, thereby blocking oil leaks from metal-to-metal contact points where oil leaks can occur.
If a sealed nut is used as is, the main drive gear will come into contact with the seal due to the length of the nut's thread, resulting in a short seal lifespan. To counteract this, a dedicated spacer is provided to adjust the length, allowing the sealed nut to be tightened in the proper position, thereby extending its lifespan.
Furthermore, the spacer is designed with a one-piece construction because the oil is designed to reach the lip portion of the KOYO seal on the special nut.
By allowing oil to reach the seal lip, the oil seal's original lubrication can be properly maintained, resulting in a structure designed for long life.
