There is no clear standard for when to replace a sprocket, making it a very ambiguous decision.
A key indicator for this is "tooth wear."
If the teeth become pointed, or if the belly or sides are worn down, it's time for a replacement.
It is recommended to replace the front and rear sprockets and chain simultaneously. If you only replace one of these three components, the worn, unreplaced parts will prevent the new parts from performing optimally and lasting as long as they should, leading to an earlier replacement. Considering the long term, replacing all three at once is recommended for better longevity.
This is a front (engine side) sprocket.
It uses S45C (high carbon steel), which boasts light weight and high durability.
Sprockets are consumables.
As a general guideline for normal driving, inspect your sprocket every 1000km.
(Regular lubrication significantly extends the life of both sprockets and chain.)
The larger the reduction ratio (Rear Sprocket Teeth ÷ Front Sprocket Teeth), the more emphasis is placed on acceleration. The smaller the ratio, the more emphasis is placed on top speed.
