There is no clear standard for when to replace a sprocket, making it a very ambiguous decision.
One factor to consider is "tooth wear."
If the teeth become pointed or the belly and sides are worn down, it's time to replace it.
Replacing the front sprocket, rear sprocket, and chain all at once. If you only replace one of these worn parts, the unreplaced worn parts will cause the new parts to wear out prematurely, preventing them from performing at their best and lasting as long as they should.
