■Product Description
◆Heat-Resistant Black Paint Spray "MONSTER BLACK"◆
This product is a repair material that allows you to easily touch up scratches and paint peeling on Moriwaki's heat-resistant black painted mufflers.
It helps to make peeled paint areas less noticeable and protects the metal surface with heat-resistant paint.
The color and sheen are the same as Moriwaki's heat-resistant black painted mufflers, so you can use it with confidence.
Additionally, this product features a spray button that allows for a fine, misty spray, enabling you to finish repair areas with seamless edges.
◆MORIWAKI Heat-Resistant Black Paint Spray "MONSTER BLACK" - Precautions and Tips for Use◆
Please also read the precautions/warnings written on the spray can.
・Step 1: Pre-painting treatment
Remove the muffler to be painted from the motorcycle, and remove dirt, rust, and grime from the surface to be painted using sandpaper or a wire brush to clean the base material thoroughly.
Then, degrease the entire base material to be painted.
This pre-painting treatment affects the subsequent durability and the quality of the finish.
・Step 2: Painting
Most of the problems that occur with heat-resistant painting of mufflers using spray cans are due to insufficient surface preparation, thick coating caused by over-application, and sudden heat from the engine entering an insufficiently dried paint film.
It is important to resist the urge to immediately rev the engine and ride after painting, and instead work carefully. This will help minimize problems during actual use and ensure a long-lasting, beautiful finish.
To prevent over-application, do not try to apply a thick coat all at once. Instead, hold the spray can 20-40 cm away from the surface to be painted and move it parallel to the surface, applying a light coat with a slight sheen.
The key is to apply 2-4 coats to the entire muffler.
This also helps prevent thick coatings, drips, and unevenness caused by using too much paint.
・Step 3: Drying
After painting, leave it undisturbed for at least 24 hours, avoiding rain and night dew.
Contact with moisture during drying can lead to poor appearance and reduced paint film performance.
To promote drying of the paint film and due to the odor from the volatile organic solvents after painting, dry it at room temperature in a well-ventilated area.
Primary drying is complete if, upon touching the painted surface with a finger, no paint adheres to your hand, and when gently pressing the paint film with your finger, it feels firm with no fingerprints left behind.
Please note that the paint resin used in "MONSTER BLACK" is a thermosetting resin, so it will not fully cure with room temperature drying or air drying.
A baking process is required.
・Step 4: Installation on motorcycle and curing/drying
If there is any softness when installing it on the actual motorcycle and tightening screws, stop the work there and, if necessary, re-paint and let it dry further.
Once installed on the motorcycle, start the engine and let it idle.
At this point, it is crucial not to rev the engine unnecessarily.
・Step 5: Baking
This heat-resistant paint, formulated with special ingredients, does not fully cure at room temperature, so sudden heat can cause "blistering, cracking, and peeling" of the paint film.
Preheat the exhaust pipe to the tail section sufficiently by idling for several minutes to ten minutes multiple times. Then, drive at low to medium speeds for about an hour to slowly bake the paint film.
Rapid acceleration and high-speed driving can cause a sudden heat load on the paint film, so please avoid high-speed driving at this stage.
After driving for about an hour, check the painted areas. If there are no abnormalities, the initial curing and drying are complete.
As actual driving time increases, the heat load on the paint film increases, and the curing and drying of the paint film gradually progress, resulting in a more stable paint film.
・Step 6: Maintenance
Over time and depending on driving conditions and road debris, the paint film may suffer damage, leading to rust from the base material or peeling.
In such cases, please consider partial repair.
Enjoy a comfortable motorcycle life and your Moriwaki muffler.
