When a porous electrode is placed on both sides of a zirconia ceramic, with one side exposed to the atmosphere and the other to exhaust gas, an electromotive force is generated according to the oxygen concentration on the exhaust gas side.
Taking advantage of this characteristic, it can be applied to control the air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas.
