Racing plugs, recommended for two-wheel and four-wheel vehicles, come in various types designed to further enhance performance when used in races, circuit driving, or with increased engine output due to tuning.
Consequently, their shape differs from the manufacturer's standard specified plugs, and there may be a slight compromise in plug life or low-speed performance.
However, on the other hand, they are developed and designed to fully perform and withstand even in extremely tuned engines and very harsh operating conditions, with a wide range of heat ratings available.
Please select the appropriate plug for your individual engine to fully maximize its performance.
Points to note when choosing a racing plug:
From the part number of your genuine plug or the plug currently in use, determine the thread size, plug type, and shape, then select the corresponding type.
Refer to the manufacturer's website for guidance on how to choose the igniter tip shape.
The heat rating needs to be selected considering the increase in combustion temperature due to engine output improvement and operating conditions, in order to maintain the plug's igniter tip temperature within the optimal range.
Simply raising the heat rating alone will not improve engine performance.
Generally, heat ratings of 7-8 are used for street driving, 8-9 for track day specifications, and 9-10 for race specifications.
The presence or absence of a plug resistor now makes almost no difference due to the improved performance of ignition systems.
Resistor types are expected to become the mainstream in the future.
Conversely, using a non-resistor type may cause engine problems in some models of certain vehicle types.
In such cases, please be sure to use a resistor type.
