The heat range needs to be selected considering the increase in combustion temperature due to increased engine output and operating conditions, in order to maintain the plug's igniter tip temperature within the optimal range.
Simply increasing the heat range alone will not improve engine performance.
Generally, heat ranges 7-8 are used for city driving, 8-9 for track day specifications, and 9-10 for race specifications.
