Racing spark plugs, recommended for both two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles, are available in various types to further enhance performance when used in races, circuit driving, or with engines whose output has been increased through tuning.
Therefore, their shape may differ from the manufacturer's standard plugs, and the plug's lifespan and low-speed performance may be slightly compromised.
However, on the other hand, they are developed and designed to fully demonstrate their performance and withstand even highly tuned engines and extremely harsh operating conditions, with a wide range of heat ratings available.
Please select the appropriate plug for your individual engine to achieve its full potential.
Precautions when choosing racing plugs
From the part number of your genuine plug or the plug you are currently using, determine the thread size, plug type, and shape, and select the corresponding type.
Please refer to the manufacturer's website for guidance on how to choose the ignition end shape.
The heat rating needs to be selected considering the increase in combustion temperature due to increased engine output and operating conditions, in order to maintain the plug's ignition end temperature within the optimal range.
Simply increasing the heat rating alone will not improve engine performance.
For primarily street use, ratings 7-8 are commonly used; for track day specifications, 8-9; and for racing specifications, 9-10.
Regarding the presence or absence of a resistor in the plug, there is almost no difference recently due to improvements in ignition system performance.
In the future, resistor-type plugs will become mainstream.
Conversely, non-resistor type plugs may cause engine trouble in some models of some vehicle types.
In such cases, always use a resistor-type plug.
