■Product Description
Everything is new. OHLINS New Conventional Fork.
The pipe dream of "zero sliding resistance"
Suspension units such as shock absorbers and front forks are machines that create resistance.
They oppose the motorcycle, which tries to move freely according to the laws of physics, with a compelling force called damping force.
They make things that move too much harder to move, and things that don't move when they should easier to move.
Their main task is to correct improper movements that adversely affect steering stability and behaviors that make the rider uncomfortable.
The sum of the damping force generated by the valve mechanism and friction is all the damping force generated by the suspension unit.
The problem is the iridescent and unpredictable nature of friction.
In the region where stroke speed is high and strong damping force is generated, the ratio of friction is negligibly small. However, in the very low-speed region where damping force is small, friction accounts for the majority of the damping force.
This applies to the moment when the stroke starts and when it reverses, but the problem is the fact that riders are sensitive to this region and it determines the quality of the ride itself. Neglecting this means that "oneness between rider and machine" will remain an unfulfilled dream.
Friction, of course, differs between new and used conditions, and also between the beginning and end of use on a given day. It is also affected by weather and temperature.
The damping force is generated as designed by the damping mechanism, and the capricious friction is influenced by the environment.
Ohlins' commitment to low friction is none other than to thoroughly eliminate uncertain elements from the suspension unit. That is why they set incredibly high standards from material selection to design and manufacturing, and produce with meticulous care.
Ohlins unveils its new conventional fork.
The only decision made before development was the φ43 inner tube diameter, and it is a completely brand new model redesigned from scratch.
It is an exceptionally clean front fork that eliminates all waste and is equipped with only essential functions.
It incorporates the latest technology without reservation, achieving high rigidity comparable to inverted forks and the lowest level of friction among Ohlins products.
The component parts are meticulously polished, making it a beautiful conventional front fork that will satisfy even the most discerning riders.
Specification
Adopts a one-way cartridge (NIX25) with a proven track record for inverted forks, such as the FGRT200 series and FGK cartridges.
Completely independent wide-range 20-step compression and 20-step rebound damping adjustments are integrated into the top cap.
Top cap with a design shared with inverted forks, pursuing functional beauty.
Preload adjustment function up to MAX 15mm does not affect stroke length.
Bottom bracket with increased axle rigidity. Compatible with axle shafts up to φ25.
Caliper bracket machined from 7075 aluminum, making it a functional separate type.
8 types of optional setup springs with different rates from 7.5 to 11.0 N-mm.
Available in two color variations: black and gold.
■Cartridge
Newly adopted one-way cartridge with completely separate compression on the left and rebound on the right (from the rider's perspective during riding) for the conventional image.
The core technology that supports the performance of inverted forks has been transplanted to conventional forks for the first time.
■Top Cap
The cap bolt features a new structure that prevents stroke fluctuations due to initial adjustment.
The design is based on inverted forks and adapted to the φ43 inner tube diameter.
■Outer Tube
The design of the axle bracket section has been reconstructed to achieve a deeper engagement length.
Achieves smooth operation and high rigidity. A garter spring is provided on the dust seal with the inner tube to improve dust resistance and durability.
■Inner Tube
Low-friction specification developed for inverted forks. Compared to conventional products, a polishing process with ultra-fine compound has been added to achieve even lower friction.
■Bottom Bracket
With the adoption of the new cartridge, the base valve section found in conventional products has been eliminated.
Adjustment groups are integrated into the top cap. The adjustment function is intuitive and easy to understand.
In addition, careful machining of forged parts increases the rigidity of the axle area.
■Spring & Guide
Inverted springs are used to cope with a wide range of spring rate requirements.
A new resin spring guide has been installed. It prevents contact with the inner tube, contributing to friction reduction, noise reduction, and improvement of oil degradation.
■Top Out Spring
The extension regulation, which was previously limited by the cylinder and the tip of the inner tube, has been transferred to the top-out spring on the cartridge side. This achieves a smooth extension characteristic with a soft impact.
■Finish Work
The high-quality anodized exterior is available in two colors: gold and black.
The top cap and bottom bracket are finished in titanium gray, and the logo mark is laser engraved.
