■Description Designed for 36-69 style oil pumps. Machined for primary scavenge port, suitable for 65-69 alloy primary. 36-64 chassis engines require the use of a 54-64 style inner primary cover. This crankcase is compatible with genuine 3-7/16 or 3-5/8 inch bores, but custom orders are required for bore sizes up to 3-13/16 inches and deck heights up to 3/16 inches taller than original. 36-54 vehicles require the use of a 55-64 style inner steel primary cover. All S&S generator-style crankcases use 58-later style main bearings, so genuine pre-57 flywheel assemblies cannot be used with S&S crankcases. A 58-later flywheel assembly with a 1.250-inch diameter bearing pinion shaft and a 54-later style sprocket shaft with Timken main bearings are required. Generator-style crankcases for 36-47 Knucklehead engines are machined to supply oil to the head from the boss near the rear tappet guide or from the genuine/S&S gear cover. Oil scavenging from the head in the crankcase is the same as genuine, performed by an oil passage connecting the tappet guide and the crankcase breather gear. Crankcases for 48-69 engines separate the oil supply passages to the top and bottom ends, assuming the use of an S&S oil pump. This feature allows the choice of a pre-72 genuine oil system (side feed) or a post-73 oil system (split feed). Genuine cast iron oil pumps can be used with genuine oil systems and provide an original appearance. When using an S&S billet oil pump (part number 31-6200), the oil system needs to be set up to genuine specifications or changed to a split specification. 63-65 Panhead engines with an external oil supply line to the cylinder head require an oil supply port behind the rear tappet guide and an oil fitting directed to the rear of the S&S gear cover.
